Variation in chemical composition of MSWI fly ash and dry scrubber residues

چکیده

Our society generates extensive amounts of municipal solid waste (MSW), which are mainly incinerated for volume reduction and energy recovery. Though, MSW incineration hazardous air pollution control (APC) residues that must be treated deposited in appropriate landfills. An alternative to landfilling is material recovery, leading regeneration valuable products reducing amounts. The chemical composition APC residues, stemming from MSW, makes the attractive metal salt but its variation development recovery processes challenging. This study investigates results 895 X-ray fluorescence analyses fly ash dry scrubber residue samples originating Norway Sweden between 2006 2020 explore within different plants. average relative standard deviation elemental concentration was estimated 30% grate fired plants about half also clarifies compositional differences fluidized bed incinerators incinerators. Also, reported concentrations other countries than showed significant composition. presented variations importance holistic approaches valorization can substitute stabilization landfilling.

Chemical composition of indoor ash residues

The ash content formed after burning of materials in indoor may be harmful to environment on dumping due to high ionic and metallic concentration. Therefore, the chemical composition of various indoor ash residues derived from burning of the biomass (BM), coal (C), cow dung (CD), incense (IS) and mosquito coil (MC) materials is described in this study. Three samples each of BM, coal, CD, IS and...

Chemical Reaction of Fly Ash

In a previous paper, Brouwers and Van Eijk [1] presented a theoretical study on the dissolution (reaction) of pulverised powder coal fly ash. This fly ash was modelled as hollow spheres, and a shrinking core model was derived for these hollow spheres that contain two regions (an outer hull and an inner region). The obtained analytical equations were applied to the dissolution experiments by Pie...

Initial studies of the recovery of Cu from MSWI fly ash leachates using solvent extraction.

Large volumes of ash from combustion of municipal solid waste are produced and most of it is landfilled. As this type of ash contains significant amounts of metal compounds the landfilling strategy is not optimal when considered from a resource conservation perspective. A better situation would be created if metals were recovered from the ash. In the present study leaching and solvent extractio...

Solidification and Biotoxicity Assessment of Thermally Treated Municipal Solid Waste Incineration (MSWI) Fly Ash

In the present work, thermal treatment was used to stabilize municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash, which was considered hazardous waste. Toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP) results indicated that, after the thermal process, the leaching concentrations of Pb, Cu, and Zn decreased from 8.08 to 0.16 mg/L, 0.12 to 0.017 mg/L and 0.39 to 0.1 mg/L, respectively, which well ...

MINTEQ modeling for evaluating the leaching behavior of heavy metals in MSWI fly ash.

At present, all kinds of municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash stabilization technology has been reported and successfully applied in many countries. However, leaching procedures are very different that the technologies lack uniform standard, and it is even impossible to predict the long-term stabilization. Geochemical model can explain the environmental stabilization based on chemi...
